Romania is investigating possible "crimes against humanity" in Ukraine following Russia's invasion of their common neighbor, prosecutors said Monday. The investigation joins a series of international initiatives that have sought to bring the Russians to justice since the war began in February.

Romania applies its jurisdiction based on the "principle of universality" as well as criminal law if crimes were committed against anyone with Romanian citizenship, the prosecutor's office said.
