Omicron's BA.2.75 sub-variant only occasionally circulates in India

BY A STAFF REPORTER :   Official sources stated on Tuesday that the highly contagious strain of Omicron's BA.2 sub-variant BA.2.75 has been shown to have a restricted circulation in India, highlighting the fact that this lineage has not yet been linked to increased illness severity or transmission. According to the sources, the Omicron  VoC  variant of the SARS-CoV-2 is currently the most widely spread variety of concern, and internationally, the BA.2 Omicron lineage has been observed to supplant the BA.1 lineage.

There is evidence that BA.2.75 circulates only in a small area of India, and this lineage has not yet been linked to increased disease severity or spread.

Many of the BA.2 lineage's sub-lineages are now forming with a unique collection of mutations as it continues to evolve. A related branch of the BA.2 lineage is B.2.75

The sources added that it is crucial to keep an eye on the growth of both this sub-lineage and the other Omicron sub-lineages that are currently forming. For an early detection of the variant strains of SARS-CoV-2, the size of genomic sequencing must be increased and maintained.
