Himachal's first week of the monsoon

By A Staff Reporter : Since the southwest monsoon arrived in Himachal Pradesh on June 29, 2022, there have been more natural disasters there. According to state official data, 44 people have perished and 45 have been injured in more than 10 big occurrences of landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts.

The state's delicate Himalayan ecology has been altered, according to experts, which has led to an increase in the severity of each natural disaster.

On the morning of July 6, 2022, a similar tragedy occurred in the Chhoj Panchayat of the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh. After a cloudburst near a camp for tourists, at least six persons were reported missing.

Three days ago, a bus that was carrying passengers plunged down a gorge near Sainj in the Kullu district, killing twelve people and injuring three more.

According to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, when the monsoon intensifies, the frequency of these instances would rise.

All deputy commissioners, he claimed, had been told to stay on high alert in case of natural disasters.

Lahaul-Spiti, a region of a cold desert that typically receives very little rainfall, has seen numerous incidents over the past year as a result of extreme rainfall, floods, and landslides. We should consider environmental issues more carefully before moving forward with future initiatives, he continued.
