Ananya Saha : West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu on Friday said the country's government was not in a hurry to close schools and colleges, as COVID-19 cases continue to grow sharply in the province. Speaking to reporters, he said a decision on the matter would be taken on the advice of the Department of Health.
"We will do so on the advice of the Department of Health. There is nothing quick on the cards," he said in response to a question.Regarding the long-running student union elections in colleges and universities, Basu said the government wanted to hold them early."We are looking at the emerging situation of COVID-19. A decision will be made on the voting of the unions based on that," he said.



 
West Bengal reported 2,950 new COVID-19 incidents on Friday with a positivity rate of 16.92 percent. Three more people have died in the province, and the number of active cases has risen to 18,856, according to the Department of Health.
