BY A STAFF REPORTER: The northeastern states have been witnessing record rainfall. Meghalaya and Assam were the worst affected by the rains. The number of deaths is increasing. In Meghalaya alone, 14 people, including a child, have died so far. Rain-related floods and landslides in the state on Friday claimed 14 lives, including a six-month-old infant, taking the toll to 19 in the last two days.

In separate incidents of landslides in South West Khasi Hills, 10 people including a BSF jawan were killed. Of these, five are from Dangar, two from Kenminsa and one each from Betgora A and Boro Rinku. Meanwhile, 31 people have died in Assam
