BY A STAFF REPORTER: A tense operation in the mid-sea near Lakshadweep. Heroin worth over Rs 1,500 crore recovered. Two boats and the passengers were arrested. The operation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, backed by the Coast Guard, is reported to have hit the drug trafficking racket hard. The Defence Ministry on Friday said that based on a recently submitted intelligence report, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has learnt that a huge quantity of drugs is going to be smuggled into the Arabian Sea. After several months of searches, investigators confirmed that two boats from the Tamil Nadu coast would arrive at a designated location in the Arabian Sea in May. There will be a huge quantity of heroin loaded in the boats. Similarly, the DRI and the Coast Guard launched an operation called 'Operation Khozbin' from May 7 to break the back of the smuggling racket. On Wednesday, two boats were seized near Lakshadweep and around 218 kilograms of heroin was recovered. The market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 1,526 crore.
