First time in Odisha, Blood Stem Cell Donor Registration & HLA Sample collection campaign was organised

Bellaguntha,08/04,Spread Happiness Foundation, a leading expatriate Oriya voluntary organization based in Pune, has taken another step forward in the field of social service.

Today, on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day and Mother's Day, a blood stem Cell Donor Registration & HLA Sample collection program was held at the Belguntha Announced Area Council House with the joint support of the Spread Happiness Foundation and the Charitable Foundation.

For the first time in Odisha, the blood stem cell Donor Registration & HLA Sample collection campaign was launched to save the lives of patients suffering from blood cancer and thalassemia.

The main purpose of the campaign was to bring new hope to life for people living with Blood cancer & other Blood Disorders. The move by Spread Happiness Foundation has ushered in a new era in the history of Odisha.

The function was presided over by Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, Chairman, Spread Happiness Foundation and was attended by Belguntha Mayor Firoz Kumar Sethi as the Chief Guest while Belguntha Press Club President and Utkal Journalists Association Ganjam District as the Chief Guest.

Pradyumna Patra(General Secretary), S Rakesh Patra(Executive Officer) Belgunta, Special Guest, Rotary Club President V Devi Prasad Patra, Councilor Divya Ranjan Das and Bhaskar Chief were present.

Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, Chairman of Spread Happiness Foundation,informed everyone about the purpose of the campaign.

The event was attended by more than 70 intellectuals from Belgunta area, notified area council staff, youth social workers, police personnel and health center staff who volunteered to donate their blood Stem Cell registered its name through a sample.

Spread Happiness Foundation members Akhil Jena, Shubhkant Nayak, Shubham Patra and Ganesh Dalai were present on the occasion and assisted in the collection of samples.

"In the coming days, the program will be held in various rural areas and people will be made aware," said Mr. Mohapatra, chairman of the Organization.

Belgunta police station SI Narayan Nayak, ASI GB Das, journalist Chandan Sahu, Saroj Shatapathi, Shivram Chowdhury, NAC staff Babula Gaud, Mangulu Muni, among others, contributed to the main event.

It has been revealed that blood stem cells are essential for the survival of cancer patients, while in India only around five lakh people so far are registered as Potential Blood stem cell Donors.

Therefore, for the first time in Odisha, such an innovative effort by Spread Happiness Foundation has been highly praised by local intellectuals.
