BY A STAFF REPORTER: One of the darkest chapters in history is the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. On April 13, 1919, hundreds of people lost their lives due to the indiscriminate firing by the colonial forces. While the British claimed that a little over 300 people had died, the Congress party said at least 1,000 people had been killed in cold blood. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recalled the incident. Rahul Gandhi tweeted that, '103 years ago, the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh showed the world the cruelty of an autocratic regime. Humble tribute to the courageous martyrs. Their supreme sacrifice has continued to inspire generations to fight against injustice.' PM Narendra Modi said that, 'Tributes to those martyred in Jallianwala Bagh on this day in 1919. Their unparalleled courage and sacrifice will keep motivating the coming generations.'
