RBI bars politicians from becoming MDs of urban co-operative banks

Reserve Bank of India has barred MPs, MLAs, and local councillors from becoming directors of urban Cooperative banks.  Moreover the MD of Urban Cooperative Banks should be a postgraduate or hold a qualification in financial discipline or be a cost or chartered accountant or have a diploma in banking or cooperative business management. The RBI circular came after a series of corruption charges and embezzlement of funds have been reported from urban cooperative banks which are usually engineered by politicians.
