Birbhum Police failure: Can junior officers act without the knowledge of district police chief?

BY A STAFF REPORTER: Even after chief minister Mamata Banerjee admitted police failure led to eight persons burnt alive in Rampurhat in Birbhum, state police are yet to take any action against the district superintendent of police, Nagendra Tripathi. Political observers claimed that after such an incident and especially after the chief minister has expressed no confidence, the police chief is removed within hours to instill faith and trust among the affected people. Sources close to the police directorate said director general of police Manoj Malviya has instructed drawing of proceedings against the suspended inspector in charge of Rampurhat police station, Tridip Pramanik and SDPO, Shayan Ahmed.
