DGP, ministers at the spot, Birbhum SP under the scanner

BY A STAFF REPORTER:

The state director general of police, Manoj Malviya reached Rampurhat to take stock of the situation even as heat began to generate after the ghastly death of eight persons in the Birbhum village. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee maintained a studied silence and directed minister Firhad Hakim and Birbhum district TMC chief Anubrata Mondol to reach the spot. The DGP's visit assumed significance as allegations are rife that police inaction led to the torching of eight persons. Locals and initial reports claimed that Birbhum police superintendent, Nagendra Tripathi and other officers did not even reach the affected area despite being informed that houses were being attacked and set on fire. Tripathi visited the house TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh who was killed in the bomb attack around midnight much after the incident.
