By a Staff Reporter: Holi on March 18. On the day before the holi, we all do 'Halika Dahana' according to the special rituals of Hinduism. According to the Puranas, Holika was the sister of the demon king Hiranyakaship. Prahlad, the son of the demon king Hiranyakaship, was an ardent devotee of Vishnu. Which the demon king never liked. So he plans to kill his son Prahlad with help of his sister Holika. Holika had a blessed shawl given by Brahma. Which always protected her. As a result, Holika decided to jump into the fire with Prahlad. Having a shawl with her, she thought that nothing would happen to her but Prahlad would die. But whenever Holika jumps into the fire with Prahlad, that shawl becomes the vest of Prahlad instead of Holika. As a result, Holika died in the fire. Since then, on the eve of Holi, the 'Holika Dahana' ritual has been observed as a symbol of victory of good over evil.
