INVESTIGATION TO BE LAUNCHED INTO TRINIDAD’S 12 HOUR ISLANDWIDE BLACKOUT

By a Staff Reporter: With many criticizing Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s silence following Wednesday’s 12 hour blackout, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young assured the country that he was thoroughly engaged throughout all points of the incident.

At a National Security media briefing on Thursday, Minister Young said that Dr. Rowley also called a national security council meeting first thing on Thursday regarding the incident.

Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales revealed that systems implemented to ensure a situation such as this does not occur, were not triggered and for some reason, did not come into effect.

And according to him, there are no signs of sabotage…



The Trinidad & Tobago Electricity Commission confirmed that at about 12:50pm "a major disturbance on the system," but the cause remained unknown. By 1 am on Thursday, more than 12 hours after electricity went, many reported that it had finally been restored.

Tobago was not affected.
