Technical glitch responsible for Jalpaiguri train tragedy: Railways

You read it first in ANM News. We were the first to bring out the preliminary report of the Jalpaiguri train tragedy where nine persons lost their lives and around fifty people suffered injuries with conditions of few of them are stated to be serious as they undergo treatment in hospital. The report indicated that train fracture --- popularly known as tear on tracks-- was responsible for the mishap. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw who visited the spot and interacted with officials said the director general of railway safety is conducting a probe. ``There was a technical glitch,'' he said, quoting preliminary reports. Railway officials informed the minister that technical glitch arising out of track fracture forced the derailment of 12 coaches. Railways have announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs for the dead and one lakh for the injured and Rs 25,000 for persons who had suffered minor injuries.
