VIOLENT CRIMES INCREASE IN CENTRAL TRINIDAD

By a Staff Reporter: According to Acting Senior Superintendent Curt Simon, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has seen an increase in violent crimes; wounding and shootings.

At a TTPS media briefing on Thursday, Supt Simon said that the division has been getting numbers down. As such they are currently at a 50 percent detection rate. This positive turn he said, is due in part to increased training for officers, as well as working alongside community stakeholders.

Supt Simon added that there have also been numerous reports on domestic violence in the Central Division. To treat with this, he explained that a programme spearheaded by head the division’s Victim Support Unit targeted at perpetrators of such crimes, has proven to be successful.
