TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO EXPANDS COVID-19 STEP DOWN FACILITIES

By a Staff Reporter: Trinidad and Tobago’s step down facilities will be taken to 342 beds. These were the words of Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh who at Monday’s covid-19 media conference said that this expansion or almost doubling of the parallel healthcare system will allow patients to be stepped down more quickly to make room for ward level care.

And with there being a slight decline in overall occupancy in the parallel healthcare system, Minister Deyalsingh said that these step down facilities provide a certain level of oxygen support as well as pharmaceuticals and non pharmaceuticals.

It is with this, he noted that 115 oxygen concentrators have been distributed to all five Regional health Authorities over the past few weeks to meet the increasing need for that kind of oxygen therapy for the now expanded step down facilities.
