A leadership contest in the National Party, the government's junior coalition partner led to Barnaby Joyce becoming the new Australia's deputy prime minister. Joyce defeated the current deputy PM, Michael McCormack in a party vote on Monday. The voting follows growing concern from some National Party MPs over their party's influence in climate policy. The National Party, which represents farmers and mostly rural areas, has 21 members in the governing centre-right coalition.
