T&T INDEPENDENT SENATOR CRITICISE OPPOSITION BEHAVIOUR

By a staff reporter:
At least 2 opposition members walked out from the Senate on Tuesday as Independent Senator Anthony Vieira filed a motion for debate seeking to censure Opposition senators for their comments during the stormy October 21 sitting of the Electoral College and also for statements made in the media thereafter. There are six Opposition senators, nine Independents and 16 Government senators who were entitled to vote on the motion.
In a very dramatic expressive form, Senator Vieira said while he had nothing personal against the Opposition, it was his duty to stand up against a blatant attack by its members
His motion also called for a Select Committee to be established to consider and report on a code of ethical conduct and behaviour for senators.
He also re-iterated an independent Senator’s role as it pertains to the examination of details in matters of National interest, rather than political sides. He said however the Opposition did not consider this and further described their actions as abusive.
