Kolkata under water, KMC pumps out but tides put a spanner

BY A STAFF REPORTER

Massive overnight rains have left Kolkata reeling under water. But brace up more hardship in the afternoon. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation claimed that all workable pumps have been put into operations since morning to drain out water into river Ganges. ``There is a low tide at the moment and hence we are operating the pumps. But we will be forced to stop them after 10 AM because of high tide,'' member Board of administrators, KMC, Tarak Singh told ANM News. ``The amount of rainfall has exceeded 100 mm in all the areas in the city with Ultadanga recording the highest,'' he added. The water logging is expected to continue till the lock gates are opened once again in low tide situation in the evening.
