BJP was quick to equate Mamata Banerjee with the Muslim League after she declared August 16 as Khela Hobe Divas. In his verified social media handle BJP MP, Swapan Dasgupta mentioned that Muslim League launched it's direct action aday and began the great Kolkata killings on August 16, 1946. He further stated that in today's West Bengal, ``khela hobe'' has come to symbolise waves of terror attacks on opponents.
